Over 60’s Awards announced

Vaughan and Warburton named WA’s best The value of a good leader was recognised when the winners of the best player awards at the National Over 60’s Championships were announced at a team function in Launceston, Tasmania last night.
The Western Australian sides had very good tournaments with the Men finishing third and the Women second against the seven other state and territory’s from around Australia.
The Beryl Brennan trophy for the best performed female player was awarded to Linda Warburton who had an outstanding tournament leading for the Rink skippered by Elaine McDonald along with Irene Leahy and Vicki Spragg. Warburton’s consistency through out all seven matches was a highlight as she gave her team mates a perfect start and great platform to build winning heads. The McDonald rink finished the series with 5 wins from seven matches.
Likewise fellow leader Glyn Vaughan gave his side a great start on almost every occasion playing many good matches and a couple of outstanding ones for WA. Vaughan won the Barns/McKenzie trophy for the second successive time and has proven himself to be one of the best draw bowlers at any level let alone in the Over 60’s. Playing with Steve O’Neill, Sam Perica and Frank Carbone the side won 4 out of 7 matches for Western Australia.
Both players will receive there trophies at the Bowls WA Awards Night on May 27th 2016 to be held at Crown Entertainment Complex.
