strong performance at East Cessnock 5-a-side tournament The East Cessnock 5 a side Challenge competition has concluded with our own Osborne Park club having a great week. With singles, pairs, triples and fours disciplines, it is a week pitted against the best club teams in the country, with any number of national and international representatives competing.
Overall the team finished in 6th place out of the twenty clubs, with special mention of the performances of the singles marque player in Daniel Trewhella who topped the table following the preliminary games only to bow out to local talent East Cessnock’s youngster Ben Twist in the semi finals 21-18, Twist went on to win the final. The triples team of Trewhella, Neville Stevens and Paul Kelly made it all the way to the final before bowing out to the strong side from Raymond Terrace in Queensland, led by young star in Matt Baus. The fours side led by Gary Caffell put in some good performances but were eliminated in the quarter finals to Soldiers Point. The only disappointment for the tournament was with the seemingly strong pairs combination of Caffell and Eddy/Wishart medal winner Lewis Grigg strangely failing to fire and finish overall in 20th place.
A top effort by the team in a week long test of bowls stamina and ability.
