S & B Challenge win to locals
at North Beach Bowling Club The “S & B Challenge”, which is a mixed handicapped event was held again this year at North Beach Bowling Club on Sunday the 29th January with a new Major Sponsor – Solargain.
Other sponsors for the event included the ever generous Glenda Cooper from Dempsey Real Estate, Just Financial Group, Liquor Home Delivery, Bowls World, Globe Growing Solutions and Club member Geoffrey Minchin. Many raffles prizes were also donated for the day by a number of other supporters of our Club and we thank them for their support.
All greens were filled with 36 mixed teams, under the handicap format that has existed for all of the event’s history, and we looked forward to a great day.
Despite what looked like being a wet day we got through all three rounds of 13 ends with only minimal disruption and all participants enjoyed the competition and fellowship that existing throughout the event.
Prizes were awarded for all rink winners in all three rounds and down to sixth place with in excess of $6,000 handed out, which is huge prize money for a one day event.
Winners on the day were the team skippered by Ross Dempsey and including Glenda Cooper, Mal Dempsey and Tom Dangerfield with 3 wins and 33 shots up.
Runners up were Gary Gregson, Ian Wardrope, Stephen Cribb and Beryl Wansbrough with 3 wins and 23 shots up.
Many thanks to the club members who made this a great success, in particular to Laurie Harrington for his tireless work in getting the teams together and to Ivan Campbell for his managing the results over the day.
Also to Ros, Nathan and their staff in the kitchen for their great food.
The Club hopes to make this an even bigger and better event next year so keep and eye out for flyers and e-mails – you will need to get in quickly if you want to secure a spot.
