Bassendean Bowling Club Fights for Family

by Kaitlin Tyrrell on February 25, 2019

Bassendean Bowling Club members and sponsors, Shane & his wife Sharon Colegate from WESBERB, brought attention to the huge battle the family are facing.   Their beloved granddaughter Ella Ford was recently diagnosed with a 22mm Pineal Cystic Tumour in her brain.  Symptoms include, headaches, nausea, dizziness, memory loss, eye pain and blurry vision, speech issues, sleeplessness, stuttered speech and the latest being stomach pain.  After several consultations with local WA surgeons who were unable to assist, the family flew to Sydney for a consultation with Dr Charlie Teo (pictured with Ella), a world-renowned children’s brain surgeon, who recommended surgery to get this bright & bubbly girl back to her normal self.

As the operation will cost a huge $100,000 the family setup a GO FUND ME page which has seen a superb response in the three weeks since it has been active. Virgin Australia also coming on board to get the family over east and back.  The current balance has just hit $60,000.  There is  still a long way to go…

An announcement was made at Bassendean’s Saturday Pennant presentations regarding the plight of Ella and the Colegate family and the response was overwhelming … not only did people dig into their pockets for the collection tin, all divisions decided to donate the majority of team fine money collected this season to help out one of our own.   Other raffles have been setup with fresh meat and produce also donated by club members.   Bassendean Bowling Club have assisted to raise over $5,000.

Every little bit helps and we know the bowling community are a giving bunch.   If you can spare a moment to check out Ella’s brave journey the links to articles and the Go Fund Me page are below.   Her parents Sarah Colegate & Tom Ford, grandparents Shane & Sharon Colegate, along with the Bassendean Bowling Club thank you for any assistance.
